thread of femininity

Thread of Femininity is a series of paintings that continues my exploration of ornament as a cultural and symbolic language. In contrast to the vivid mosaics of earlier works, this project incorporates delicate European lace motifs rendered in subtle, muted tones. The lace becomes both a visual and conceptual thread: an element that weaves together notions of tradition, identity, and the representation of conventionally understood womanhood.

The series focuses on the expression of female emotions through body language. Although the figures are not defined by facial features or portraiture, their gestures convey a psychological and emotional depth. Each composition becomes a study of sensitivity, vulnerability and inner strength, revealing the complexity of what is often labelled as “feminine.”

Thread of Femininity critically examines the idea of the “female nature” as historically constructed within patriarchal societies. By using lace, an ornamental symbol often associated with fragility and femininity, the works both reference and question traditional ideals of softness, delicacy, and grace. This approach encourages reflection on how cultural symbols shape and perpetuate gendered perceptions of the body and identity.
